Particle size distribution greatly affects the dissolution speed, reaction efficiency and element absorption rate in steelmaking. Large lumps dissolve slowly for electric arc furnaces to avoid overheating. Granular alloys with moderate specific surface area work well for basic oxygen furnaces. Fine powder reacts rapidly for ladle injection and final refining. We classify products into lump, granule and powder with narrow particle size range.
